Overview
Creating accessible emails and digital documents isn’t just a best practice, it’s a requirement under Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 A/AA. As a college that serves a diverse community, including students and employees with disabilities, it’s essential that every digital communication we send is readable, navigable, and usable by everyone.
This guide provides basic accessibility standards for common elements in digital communications, including color contrast, subject lines, headings and structure, links, images, attachments, and more. Following these guidelines helps ensure that:
- Screen reader users can access all information
- Mobile users can read content easily
- Studentsdon’tmiss important deadlines or instructions
- EICC stays in compliance with federal accessibility requirements
- Our communications are clear, professional, and consistent across the district
Accessibility supports equity—and when we build it into our emails from the start, we create better experiences for all readers. This document outlines the core practices you should follow to make every email accessible, effective, and compliant.
